How Old Is A Senior

When some people reach 50 they are suddenly terrified of being ‘over the hill’.

In their mind they feel that life is almost over for them. Others reach the age of 80 and wonder how they got there and how come they don’t feel a day older than 40 or 50, and will they have time to do all the things they still want to do?

I submit it is all in your ‘head’ or mind. You are as old as you want to feel or be or act. There is no set time when your life is going to end, and there is no set time when you should stop doing all the things you always did, provided you are physically able and coherent. Those are things we cannot control whether we be a senior or a junior. However, many people have not been stopped by seeming insurmountable afflictions.

I knew a great old lady who lived in three centuries [1899-2000] to the age of 101 and managed her own home until the third century that she lived in and when asked how she did it, she would reply with vehemence, “Stay away from them old people”. This is very sage and sound advice.

Many seniors of 50 simply stop going forward and even degress into the past. The past is a good place to learn about the future but one needs to heed those lessons and move forward into the furure. They know all about the things that were invented in the past but learn nothing about the inventions of today.

To spend time with these people is actually depressing and should be avoided.

One of the biggest advancements in the last 50 years is the computer. Many seniors saw it is the future and quickly learned to adapt to it while they were still young seniors. That is not to say they could not learn it when the reached 60 or 70 or 80 or beyond. Many seniors do not seemingly know their actual age and continue to act as though there is no tomorrow. They are mastering the compupter and going on to make a living marketing online. They will live for a very long time because they are truly ‘alive’ every day of their life.

For those who are not truly alive, try getting a computer, or a cell phone or a DVD player or any one or more of all the new products available today and get involved and market yourself somewhere, or to someone. Tell the world!

Life Goals Are Challenged By Aging

Probably you think of yourself as wiser and more intelligent today, since a certain amount of time separates you from the child you once were. For me, it seems like centuries ago that my worries were limited to the method I should use to break the news to my parents that I have decided to spend my summer vacations with my friends instead of them. But, although those awkward instances belong to the past, there are times that I miss the feeling of someone else having the willingness to decide; practically on anything, from where to eat to what to do next in my life.

Being a control-junkie over my life's choices I recently realized that I am more or less stuck with this unfamiliar feeling that life keeps passing by and I have not yet realized my potential; whatever that may be. This dreadful moment, the exact point in time that I had to tell myself the truth and nothing less than the truth or help me God, came a Wednesday evening that I was supposed to be out celebrating my 30th birthday. I have never considered myself to be that kind of person who is afraid of getting older and wants to avoid being reminded of such a joyful day. But that particular evening, as I returned home from a day's hard work, I felt the urge of keeping my body and mind confined instead of getting out and "having some fun." Although I selected a peculiar time for introspection, a voice inside my head kept yelling that my present choices affect the things I am about to experience and age does in fact interfere with my dreams.

Living in a fast-paced mode for more than a decade, friends recently reminded me that our frightening thoughts are actually well-justified and it is not just our imagination that those wrinkles, which keep coming without an invitation, do not represent any kind of wisdom or "added-value" since we spend time thinking things over instead of acting. Seeking the true purpose of my life was my goal that night. The alarming realization that I was not content with my present state and did not know what exactly I wanted to do with my life, except move forward, just like the kid that was trapped in an adult's body in the movie "Big" with Tom Hanks, at first made me smile and later gave me the chills which probably ruined the carefree spirit of my birthday celebration.

Does aging result in finding a purpose in life? I certainly doubt it. Today, I smile when I hear kids answering the question "What would you like to be when you grow up?" Based on my own experience, my dream of becoming a "gift wrapper" has long been forgotten and today I seem to concentrate all my efforts not on actually enjoying the fact that I am able to realize my dream any time I want, but rather on searching for the method that will allow me to continue pursuing it. In my opinion, the biggest challenge appears when one realizes that during the time it takes to acquire the means towards attaining a goal, the original goal has "magically" been displaced. Using my personal dream as an example, I now spend most of my time trying to find the best method to earn the money that will allow me to buy a present, regardless if I am the one who wraps it or not. Although I still enjoy the process, wrapping a gift is no longer the ultimate goal. How come and I have missed my goal? Although I am still searching for the right answer, that night's sole-searching concluded with the realization that since life is full of surprises, by definition we experience it unprepared. Exactly like a kid. But yet again being an adult means we are able to control our life's choices. Are you now able to see the "goal-aging" gap?

What To Do After Retirement

When some people start reaching retirement age, they don’t want to retire. All their life, they have worked hard, thinking about the day they could retire. However, the actual act of retirement can be a little scary to some people. After all, they have no idea what to do with themselves in retirement. Instead of being fearful of retiring, you should embrace the fact that you have worked hard and now get to rest a bit because of it. Take a look at these things you can plan for after your retirement.

Travel

One of the best things you can do after retirement is travel. Some people spend their whole lives wanting to go to one place or another, but never actually finding the time and finances to do so. When you hit retirement age, most of your major purchases will likely be paid off, so you will have more available cash to spend. In addition, you will have the time to travel. You can travel at any time of year, without worry. You can use this to your advantage and get the best deals in off peak season traveling. Just relax and enjoy yourself!

Hobbies

Another thing you can get into after retirement is a hobby. If you already have a hobby, you can spend more time doing it. If you don’t have a hobby, you can find one. Take some time to think about what you love doing and finding a way to enjoy that even more. You may find others like you that enjoy the same things. You might want to play golf with your other retired friends, or start making model airplanes. Be sure to enjoy your time off from work.

Family

Many people only see their family once or twice a year, at major holidays. However, you can have more time to visit family after retirement. You can take trips to see those who live far away or you can simply plan a once a week visit to see the grandchildren.

An extreme form of anti-aging is cosmetic surgery. This type of treatment can be as small as having Botox injected into small areas to reduce wrinkles, such as above the eyebrows or around the eyes. Cosmetic surgery can go as far as complete body alterations. Such types of surgery might target such areas as removal of fatty tissue in the stomach, legs and even hips or you may opt for the more traditional surgery such as face-lifts to take years off your looks.

No matter what option you choose, be sure to check with your doctor to see which treatment is right for you. You want to make sure that what you choose will be covered by insurance or that it will fit into your budget since such creams for anti-aging can be pricey.

Talking with an aging parent about purchasing long-term care insurance isn’t usually a cheerful conversation. Fortunately, not everyone has to talk with an aging parent about purchasing long-term care insurance. Some aging people have enough money saved to cover the cost of long-term care. Many times aging widows can rely on the money from their deceased husband’s pension. For example, an aging woman who was married to a coal miner who developed black lung disease or another respiratory problem will usually receive a check until the day she, too, passes on. Ways To Reduce Wrinkles

Wrinkles – no one can avoid the signs of time and mother natures aging process, but all of us can reduce the signs of fine lines and wrinkles with the right products. Here is some expert advice to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Vitamin A or retinol which is derived from Vitamin A is an antioxidant which is used in almost every wrinkle cream on the market. The team suggests that substances in caffeine trigger muscles to use fat to fuel exercise instead of using the usual stores of carbohydrates. Other studies have found that caffeine taken during exercise can delay the onset of fatigue by up to 60%. (Intakes tested have typically been modest, ie 6-8 ounces of cola or coffee.)

People who drink 6-8 ounces of coffee before exercise may be able to exercise 30 minutes longer, according to the “Caffeine boosts athletes’ stamina,” Nutraingredients.com, Aug. 5, 2003. The report suggests that caffeine can trigger a-8 substance in muscles to burn fat instead of carbohydrates.

These studies are confirmed by a Norwegian study of 227,000 people that suggests that exercise may help avoid a premature death. Working out for just 1/2 hour a day can increase your chances of reaching age 90 by up to 31 per cent.

Exercise works in tandem with a healthy diet, maintaining a positive state of mind, an active social life, and preventing disease to help people not only live longer, but enjoy a high quality of life well into their retirement.

As people grow old, they become more and more prone to diseases or illness. At the point they reach old age, they will suffer from arthritis, and heart related conditions. Back to health insurance, baby boomers are getting more and more concerned about this subject because today, they are currently in their late 40s and early 60's. Obviously, aging is closely associated with diseases and illnesses. Because of the high population level of the baby boomer generation, they are concerned that when the time comes that they will need the assistance of health insurance, they think that because of the high population of baby boomers in today's society, health insurance companies will be unable to provide enough financial assistance.

If you worked in private companies, there may be issues concerned about company health insurance. You may be covered by health insurance even when you are retired. However, in the event of bankruptcy, the court will cancel the entire employer's obligation on paying for the insurance. Although it may not include pensions, you have to expect that in case bankruptcy is filed by your former company, your health insurance policy will not be covered anymore by the company. You will be the one who will pay for it.

If you worked for the government, you may still be able to get free health insurance provided by the government as a benefit for their former employees.

Today, the government is now adjusting the national budget to provide for aging and retiring baby boomers. However, there is another growing concern facing baby boomers. Health insurance policies are now expensive for aging people. Low cost health insurance may not be sufficient for your health needs.

However, pressures from the government are now providing several options for baby boomers who are applying for health insurance. So, if you are part of the baby boomer generation, you can expect that in the near future, all your problems facing health insurance will be solved with low cost comprehensive health insurance and also low cost health care provided by hospitals and doctors for senior citizens.

Skin Care Cosmetics – Are They Helpful Or Harmful?

Is the use of skin care cosmetics helpful, or are they harmful to us?

Healthy and beautiful skin is a great confidence booster. Some people have natural beauty and don’t tend to use any skin care cosmetics, whereas there are others who just don’t use skin care cosmetics due to a number of reasons. Some people feel that skin care cosmetics can harm their skin, and therefore choose not to use then.

However, there are a very large number of people (both men and women) who do use skin care cosmetics as part of their daily routine. This is why the business of cosmetic products is booming!

So then, can the use of skin care cosmetics be helpful, or can they be harmful to us?

Opinions seem divided, but one thing is for sure – Looking beautiful and healthy is surely nice and very desirable. On the other hand, too much skin care cosmetics can surely be harmful (as such, excess of almost anything is harmful). So, what do we do?

The first thing is to formulate (and follow) a skin care routine that will help keep your skin look and feel healthy, as well as clean and bacteria free. The general recommendation is to cleanse and moisturise your skin every day, and to tone and occasionally exfoliate as and when needed.

Rubbing too hard or trying to squeeze a pimple can lead to permanent damage (such as scaring) to your skin.

5. Finally, if you have a skin disorder (such as acne), you should consult a dermatologist before using any type skin care cosmetic. Again, apply rule 2 if you have a skin disorder to ensure that the cosmetic doesn't cause a reaction.

Din-sor-pong is natural white soil substance found on the shallow layer of the ground. Some would call it Din-Soog (baked soil). The Din-sor-ping is found abundantly in Lopburi province. People would dig it up, stir for fine soils and dissolve with water before drying it into the mixture.

The Din-sor-pong is sometimes called “Pang-Yen”, which means cooling talc. This mane brings Din-sor – pong about a relation with blessing occasions the coolness is pleasurable in a tropical climate. Therefore, the Pang-Yen or Din-sor-pong has been a part of many traditional ceremonies such as house warming, wedding, a tribute to teachers, by being dissolved in Chan oil or Nam- Ob Thai.

In the Book of Dhatvipankha, Din-sor-pong is one of ingredients of a medication for oversweating. It is mixed with other ingredients, powdered and shaped before being melt in flower scented water. This medication is taken by both swallowing and body pasting.

Din–sor–pong could also be used in a simple form to help reduce body rashes, or mixed with powdered Kamin, a special medication for a new mother after giving birth.

How to make the Din – sor –pong : Ingredients and Tools: the Din- sor-pong, tin or brass cones, fine cotton cloths, some wide plates, scented candles, and alum.

1. Dissolve the raw Din-sor-pong with water in big tubs, stir will and sieve.

2. Sieve the wet Din-sor pong with fine cotton cloths for 2-3 times.

3. Rinse out dusty water on the top and stir well until the Din-sor-pong becomes sticky.

4. The heavier and sticky part will rest down the tubs’bed. This part is usually shaped into a big round size and left to dry. The heavy Din-sor-pong is normally used n crafts such as wood carving mirror polishing, or Khon masking.

5. The light Din-sor-ping, which would surface up fro the whole mixture, is used for body cosmetics. It needs to be sieved again and whiten by mixing with mils alum. Then it will be left to dry by dropping a tiny lump on plates laid by fine cotton cloths. After that, it will be perfumed by Kameyan and scented candle.

Usage:

• Reduce body rashes by dissolving with the Nam-Ob Thai.
• Relieve burnt pain by dissolving with water.
• Relieve sor/swollen skin by dissolving with lemon juice.
• Clean underground vegetable by dissolving with water.
• Fill up cracked wood surface, polish mirror and mask the Khon’s texture.
